We first met Steve, Maggie and their two young sons during the Summer of 2020. The pandemic had hit them hard. Maggie, a Certified Nurse Assistant, had contracted COVID and been out of work for a few months attempting to gain her strength. To complicate things further, Steve’s hours had been reduced and they were struggling silently until a friend encouraged them to visit Loaves & Fishes.
“I was ashamed to ask for help, but Maggie was so sick she couldn’t work so we’d lost her paycheck and my hours had been cut. We couldn’t keep up with the bills. I decided to visit the Pantry. I couldn’t believe all of the food I received. The fruits and vegetables were amazing – something we certainly couldn’t afford on our own. We can’t thank you all enough. Someday soon we hope to pay it forward and become volunteers.”
